1st. read: 6/18/11 Uzuki is a timid and sweet man, a surgeon that heading home follows the cries of mewling cat only to find a man bleeding in an alley. The man with the huge tiger tattoo on his back seems shady; still Uzuki tries to assist him, but the injured man refuses to go to the hospital. He asks for Uzuki's phone to call for someone to pick him up, and then tells Uzuki he should go. Uzuki actions remind the man of a rabbit before he loses consciousness once again. Uzuki feeling bad about running away and leaving someone hurt, goes back with some supplies from the hospital he works at and treats the guy's wound. Convinced he's done his best, he walks away leaving his coat behind. Nonami is one of the heads of a crime organization. He is attacked by someone who sees him as a rival for the organization's leadership-as he later learns his boss is dying of cancer, and so that's how he manages to get injured and left for dead. Not really lucid when someone comes to his aid, he mistakes Uzuki's name for Suzuki. Armed with this name and knowledge that his 'nightingale' works at the nearby hospital, he makes his cousin fake an illness so that he'll be admitted as a patient-a ruse to grant Nonami the access he needs in order to find his Suzuki. But something's not right, as his tiger tattoo tingles every time Uzuki is close; his instincts are telling him that his nightingale might not be a woman at all. Yet he has to tread carefully because his enemies are moving, and he has to keep Uzuki out of harms way. I find Honma-sensei's work so pleasurable. Her Semes are always 'bad boy' types; they have such intensity and there's always this hint of darkness to their personalities. Nonami is no exception, but I like that he has this soft and playful side too. Although a man involved in a shady business and a killers instinct, he's also a man who loves animals and likes family movies e.g. Heidi and A Dog of Flanders. Uzuki is just fun to watch; his reactions, particularly with Nonami are just hilarious. He's just a ball of nervous energy the whole way through, poor guy must drop dead tired every time he sleeps. I'm excited for the 2nd. volume but it's a little ways away-it doesn't come out 'til Oct.; so I guess I'll just content myself rereading this until then. :)
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! *phew* Okay, now that this moment of yaoi fangirling has been taken care of, I can happily say that I loved this! Ever since I learned that this series was being licenced by June, I have been waiting eagerly for it.

2/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk. Content Warnings for book: Gun violence, misogyny Kink: N/A For all three volumes: One guy had more sex with women than he ever did the other MC. The mafia plot became almost the sole focus. The love really didn’t exist, they didn’t spend much time together? IDK. I was way hyped for something that never felt romantic. Sigh.

A yakuza boss is on the prowl. His mission; trying to discover the identity of the female doctor who saved his life in a back alley... Only problem is, that woman is really a man; one who is terrified of his own shadow... An unexpectedly cute story <3

Usagi Otoko, Tora Otoko or Rabbit Man, Tiger Man art and story by Akira Honma is a romantic comedy at its best. And a yaoi I wanted to review just for the sake of sharing because it’s good, really good.
Doctor Uzuki works out of a university teaching hospital. One night on his way home he comes across a man shot in the shoulder. The man Nonami is yakuza, which makes the doctor nervous, but he can’t leave an injured person to possibly die. So, he patches Nonami, and then disappears into the night. At the time, probably due to his condition, Nonami misheard Uzuki’s name, and has mistaken him for a woman he believes is called Suzuki. With the help of a brother yakuza, he infiltrates the university hospital to find “Doctor Suzuki.”
There is another story, but it really does play second fiddle to the Uzuki and Nonami’s relationship. The handsome Nonami is a crazy sort of guy—somewhat eccentric and unpredictable, he has a tendency to yell when he doesn’t get the answer he wants. But underneath his gruff exterior beats a kind heart that gradually becomes ensnared by Uzuki. And it’s the way he falls in love that makes him irresistible. Uzuki, on the other hand, is timid, intelligent, and patient, a real adorable uke, and a perfect match for Nonami on every level.
I mentioned this yaoi is a romantic comedy, in which some moments are definite “laugh out loud” quality and others are incredibly romantic. And the author does a superb job with art; she has created one of the longest and most beautiful love scenes I’ve come across. I would rank this yaoi equal in caliber to Eda Yuuri and Machiya Hatoko’s Koi to wa Yobenai (You Can’t Call it Love); great characters and an interesting story with loads of emotion. I know the bad boy yakuza has been done to death, but in the case of Rabbit Man, Tiger Man the bad boy Nonami’s unconventional outlook makes him unique. This yaoi is a definite “must read.” I look forward to purchasing additional works from Akira Honma. Five stars!

Romantic? No. Funny? No. Cute? Not really. Although yes, Dr. Uzuki is really cute looking. But not the story. The little doctor is so afraid of Yakuza-san I kind of pity him. Yes, he is kind of pleased that this yakuza guy likes him, but besides that, nothing. And their story in this first volume ends when the yakuza guy attempts to rape poor little Dr, so I better skip this one.

I originally bought this book because of the tiger tattoo on the cover. Yakuza love stories have always been a weakness of mine. This did not fail. It was a really fun read. Loved all the symbology of the rabbit and moon. And when the characters were in their animal forms, it was just so cute, so laugh out loud funny. Loved it!

A bit confusing at the end but a pretty realistic storyline what with the fact that the guy don't fall in love with the doctor just like that.

The doctor is so nervous throughout the book, it made me anxious.

A silly but surprisingly good yaoi that went in unexpected directions over and over, with a handful of extremely striking art panels, most notably when it gets steamy and goes anthropomorphic. The silly factor keeps any real depth out of the characters, and the yakuza plot isn't fully baked either, but both do get better in the next two volumes. It just felt fresh and interesting compared to a lot of what's out there, particularly given that no one is entirely one-note; Nonami is prone to creating meditative stillness and controls his more rapey tendencies with games, and Uzuki is increasingly torn between the one-sided attraction and day-to-day work. The only thing I'm really not a fan of at all is the included side story, "If You Write A Lie, I Will Read It As The Truth," which is a complete 180 from the story and very, very rapey and squicky all around.

I found this when it was a scanlation and knew that if it were ever published in english I would end up trampling someone to get it. I think I have a yakuza fetish, but I digress. There is a war of succession brewing because the Boss has cancer. The two who thought they would be considered for leadership are shocked when Nonami(Tiger Man)is asked personally by the Boss to think about taking over which leads to...Nonami shot in an alley. Along comes Dr.Uzuki (Rabbit Man) and initially helps even though he's scared, runs away feels guilty and comes back to find Nonami relapsed. He fixes the man up then just like Cinderella he drops his labcoat and disappears. Noami is a dangerous man. Hints are dropped that he used to be rich man's son and that he attended a prestigious university before walking into the underworld. He tracks his savior to the hospital but ends up looking for a female named Suzuki. It's rather scary but hilarious at the same time when he tracks Uzuki down and discovers for himself that his Nightengale is a Nightengay. There is a lot of humor in the story. I love when Nonami phones Uzuki his call display shows YAKUZA-SAN. Also when there aggressive violence the characters are transformed into a tiger and a rabbit. I want volune 2 to come out soon.

More yakuza? Why not! This time Uzuki, a small, shy (rabbit-like!) doctor finds Nonami, a (tiger-like!) yakuza, lying in an alley and trying not to bleed to death one night on his way home from work. Uzuki is terrified of Nonami, but treats him anyway...before running away. But Nonami thinks he's fallen in love with the "woman" (hey, all that blood loss, he was really out of it) who helped him and shows up at Uzuki's hospital to find "her"...etc, etc. There's some plot going on with Nonami's yakuza group (which I found kind of boring, frankly), but the interactions between Nonami and Uzuki (and Nonami's flunky) are hilarious and adorable. (But it ends on a cliffhanger! I want the next volume!!) Obligatory tiger/bunny scan: I am totally in love with the little hearts around the tiger in the first panel. XD

I was really surprised by how much I liked this. Both characters were surprisingly sweet in their own way, and it definitely wasn't what I expected. I'm really glad I believed the glowing reviews in this case.

I really enjoyed the art in this volume, and the set up of the story was fun. Both main and supporting characters have rich expressions, and while there are some serious moments, I adored the humor. The animals forms of the yakuza and the doctor were really fun to read. There's a second story at the end of the volume that I also enjoyed, and I hope those characters will also have a continuation in the second volume.
