I have been using Armslist for quite a while. However, since the adopted a pay model, the number of postings has dropped dramatically. I signed up; but, I am starting to think that maybe that was a mistake.
Any thoughts?
Also, and this may just be the Covid 19 talking, I am a little sketched out about now having all of my info in their data base.
Again, any thoughts?

I still occasionally look, but would only make a deal or purchase through one of the ads with a phone number posted so I can contact them directly. I'm not paying nor am I going through armslist for contact. I hoped everyone one stop using it, and they would withdraw the subscription based service but that isn't looking good. I also figure it's just a matter of time before they stop the registered users from posting their number in the ads.

I still check periodically and there are occasionally decent deals to be had (just picked up a TCR22 at a reasonable price, not a steal but a solid price even in pre Covid numbers). It’s getting rarer and rarer to find good deals on there and most of the ads now are dumbdick ammo flippers who think that their steel cased 223 is worth $1 a round, and who knows maybe it is if there are people actually agreeing to pay that. I definitely don’t have a subscription though, I only respond to ads that have a email or phone number. Also I stopped posting on armslist because they weren’t letting me take old ads down so I was getting constant messages about a case of ammo I put up a few months ago

I cruise it occasionally.
I posted a gun right before it went to paid to use and now I can't even edit my old ad. I.Still.Get.Calls.Every.Day. It might be worth the $5 just to mark my item as sold.
@Saris list it here?

Dang it!
Was it you that got the TCR22 from the guy in Graham? He also had a Ruger MKII.
I had eye balled that pair and decided against it because of the drive, but man that MKII sure is pretty...And after all, I really NEED it to help fill in the gap between my standard and my MKIV right?

But to the original post. I have not signed up for it, mainly because I did not like the thought of them having my info, but also because I did not expect that all too many buyers would sign up just to message sellers. I am not too big of a fan of putting my phone number in the ad, so I would probably just create a separate email dedicated only to selling on armslist if I were to go that route now.
Like PigLatin, I had stuff posted there that I STILL get emails about. I cannot edit or delete the listing anymore. Thankfully I did not have my # in the ad, so it only emails for me.

I plan on postings and buying here. I am still in my initial 30 days.
About the 30 days, can I respond to listings and buy before I do my time?

You can buy, just not sell.

I’ve bought off of Armslist in the past. The last time was about 8 months ago. I just don’t see much of what I collect - old milsurp sidearms - on there anymore.

I've sold a few and bought a few on Armslist over the past few years. Main problem was spammers/phishing e-mails, which the paid membership seems to have taken care of that problem.
I've had a few people waste my time and I've wondered a few times if it was the ATF trying to trap me or just an idiot trying to get me to do the transaction with his brother in law, accept a copy of his CHP etc, but I stick to the laws and have called off a few deals. I've not had a problem other than had my time wasted.
I've got my Kimber and some holsters on there now (in addition to here).

Just went in there to find a CZ 75. Looked like a ghost town.

I have had the same experience. Even had one ask me to do something illegal, then when I refused he said "its okay man, im a cop, I do this all the time nobody cares".
Still dont know the full story behind that guy, but I never even agreed to meet him face to face.
Mostly good experiences though.

It's a .gov sting. 10 years ago armslist was hit pretty hard by buyers trying to get sellers to ship directly to them (they'd even give prepaid labels, copies of their DVD, proof of address). It came out that there were 2 agencies working the Armlist eastern coast for people not playing by the book.

I don't agree with the subscription and won't be using it. But what really grinds my gears is the seller has to have a subscription to list items. Anyone interested in a posted item also has to have a subscription to contact the seller. So if an item were to interest me, it would cost $7 just to contact the seller to ask a simple question. A lot of the descriptions are vague or may just be pictures. Even then you stand a good chance of getting no reply, or the item already being sold and the seller hasn't took the ad down yet. Then to top it off, 90% of the used items on armslist you can walk into a gunshop and buy from the same price if not cheaper new.

They are free to read but if you try to respond to a seller or post for sale they require a paid subscription
